詹姆斯A. 巴恩斯纪念奖 was created by the Associated 学生 of the University of Idaho (ASUI) to honor an outstanding UI staff member who displayed extraordinary enthusiasm and service to the students of the University of Idaho. Jim was the director of High School Relations (Office of Campus 访问s) from 1975 to 1984. He died of cancer at the age of 36. Jim's incredible energy, sense of humor, and joy of living was an inspiration to many young people. He encouraged them to enroll at the University of Idaho and improve their lives through higher education. He gave tirelessly and joyfully of himself and is remembered by numerous alumni. 

Any current University of Idaho staff member is eligible to apply or be nominated.  UI students, faculty, staff and administrators may nominate candidates. Applications and nominations should reflect the candidate's service to University of Idaho students, participation in leadership/service activities within the community and/or on campus and any other exceptional qualifications. Up to four additional pages of pertinent and supporting background materials such as newspaper articles, 支持信, citations and project descriptions may also be included in the applications or nominations.

This award acknowledges outstanding service to undergraduate students above and beyond normal faculty obligations.

Any current University of Idaho faculty member in a teaching position is eligible to apply or be nominated. UI students, faculty, staff and administrators may nominate candidates. Candidates who received this award in the past two years are not eligible. Applications and nominations should reflect the candidate's rapport with students, and clear and effective presentation of subject material, ability to stimulate interest in subject material and presentation of the latest developments in the field. Applications and nominations must also include the candidate's curriculum vita.

教师 advisors have been a part of students' extracurricular activities since the 1890s, when U of I administration encouraged the development of student organizations in order to discourage young men from frequenting local saloons. Today, organization advisors still play a vital role in the lives of students. They give of themselves and their time to enhance co-curricular experiences of students. This award was created in recognition of the work student organization advisors do above and beyond professional responsibilities.

Any current University of Idaho faculty or staff member who serves as advisor to a recognized or affiliated student organization is eligible to apply or be nominated. UI students, faculty, staff and administrators may nominate candidates. Candidates who have student organization advising responsibilities as part of their employment duties are not eligible. Applications and nominations should reflect the advisor's level of contribution to organizational activities and students' leadership development; their impact on the organization, its members and the campus; and distinguished service to their organization, either one significant activity or a pattern of exemplary service over the year(s).
